World of Warcraft Leveling Tips

5 Tips and Tricks to Skyrocket Your Leveling speed in WoW

If you're planning to powerlevel your character in World of Warcraft. Then here's a few simple tricks and tips that could increase help you increase your leveling rate - By a lot!

Leveling Tip #1 - Cut down on travel times

This is the single biggest cause of a slow leveling speed. Unnecessary travel times. Cut them right out. The more gametime you spend leveling instead of traveling from place to place, the faster you're obviously going to level. So, how do you do it?

First of all, take as many quests as you can at once. And don't return to the 'quest hub' (usually the friendly town in the zone e.g. Crossroads for The Barrens) until you've finished completing them all. Now, completing the quests in the right order is another way to level faster. And to find out how to do that, you should check out our WoW leveling guide page.

Stop wasting time travelling to and from capital cities. You don't need to upgrade your gear as often as you'd think. As an experiment, on my 5th character from 1-80 (my mage) I decided not to upgrade ANY of my equipment from levels 34-44. And when I did finally upgrade, (Thanks to the auction house and Zul' Farrak) the difference wasn't even that noticable. I'm not suggesting that you do the same, and definetly don't if you play a melee class! But it's just proof that you really don't need to spend so much time in cities. Because that's time you could of spent leveling.

And as for going to cities to upgrade spells, check out what spells you'll get at that level on thottbot, and if their not essential to your leveling... then don't bother getting them right away.

Leveling Tip #2 - Level in the right zone

I still see so many Horde players leveling 10-20 in The Serpentine... When, and take it from me, you'll level MUCH faster in The Barrens. That's just one example, but they exist throughout the 1-80 journey. So make sure you're leveling in the fastest place for your faction, how do you know if it's the best spot? Well, if you're alone in the zone for example then it's usually a sign you could be leveling faster somewhere else.

What happens when I've finished all of the quests in that zone? Then it might be time to move to a 'lesser' zone, since questing is (especially after the exp rate increases) a much faster and more interesting way to level. For more info on Questing vs. grinding read our article on it here.

Leveling Tip #3 - Be prepared

Probably the most obvious of all the World of warcraft leveling tips in this guide, but bear with me, because it is important!

Always have plenty of food and water with you. Obviously you won't need water if you're a Warrior or Rogue though. If you're a caster and likely to be burning up a lot of mana, try to get a mage to conjure you some food in a Capital city before heading out for a leveling session. It will save you a ton of gold over the levels.

Don't forget about potions. The amount of times a potion would've saved me durability damage from death and a long, boring corpse run... Seriously, I can't stress their importance enough. Death will slow down your leveling substantially. So, make sure you're always stocked up on them from the auction house.

Sleep in an inn. Remember that simply logging out inside an inn will DOUBLE the amount of exp you gain for a short period of time. It really is worth it and make sure you do it if you plan on being away from your computer for a long period of time (overnight for example).

Sell your junk and make room in your inventory. While this isn't going to affect your leveling speed. You will earn a lot of money from killing NPC's, so make sure you have enough room in your inventory to collect all the drops.

Leveling Tip #4 - Play your class properly

Make sure you know which talents are good for solo leveling. For example, for a priest while Holy is considered a 'PvE' talent spec it refers to end game group content. Not solo leveling, for which Shadow is much better. Also, it might be worthwhile exploring beyond the traditional ways of leveling. AoE leveling (Taking on up 8 NPC's at once using area of effect spells) is a viable tactic for Mage's.

Now, It's beyond the scope of this guide to give specific leveling tips and tricks for each class. So See our individual class leveling guides here for more specific information.

Leveling Tip #5 - Get a leveling guide

Ever since using a leveling guide for the first time. I don't think I could go back to not using one. Seriously, without a leveling guide I don't think I could have leveled 5 characters to 80. Because believe it or not, I HATE leveling. A leveling guide will show you exactly the fastest way to level, step by step, from level 1 to level 80.

My favourite, by far is the iDemise Leveling guide. It's fully ingame, which means you don't have to ever tab out to read your next instructions. It even shows you exactly where to go on a map. If you want to find out more about leveling guides you can read our information page here as well as reviews of the other leveling guides available.

Thanks for reading and I wish the best of luck to you leveling!
